Cat Reunited with owner after 5 years!
We recently needed some help in solving a bit of a
mystery we had on our
hands. We took in a stray cat from Caerphilly when an elderly lady who had
been looking after him was unable to keep him due to ill health.
When the cat was checked at the vets, he was found to have 2 microchips -
registered to a Mr and Mrs Patterson, with 2 separate addresses and 2
different phone numbers in NOTTINGHAM!
According to information from Petlog, the cats's name was Fernando. We had
been unable to trace his owners, despite extensive enquiries including
contacting the Nottingham branch of Cats Protection and the phone numbers
and addresses registered with Petlog. The only clues we had were that Mr
Patterson ran a pub - 'The Manvers Arms', Main Road, Radcliffe on Trent,
Nottingham and moved from there 5 years ago; and that Fernando was reported
missing from the Nottingham area in March 2002. Quite how he came to be
straying in Caerphilly was a mystery and we would have liked him to be
returned to his owner if at all possible. A Nottingham local newspaper also
agreed to run the story in an effort to shed some light on this.
Great news! The feature in the Nottingham newspaper
reaped rewards and
Fernando's owner was at last found! She is living back in Nottingham and
when a friend saw the appeal in the paper, she contacted the owner who rang
us the same evening. Apparently the couple moved from Nottingham to Caldicot
in 2001 with Fernando and their other cat but in March 2002 they decided to
move back to Nottingham. The 2 cats were taken to Mrs Patterson's mother in
Bedwas for a few days while the move took place, but Fernando escaped and
despite all efforts, could not be found. Mrs Patterson gave up all hope of
ever seeing him again and is absolutely delighted that she will be reunited
with Fernando as soon as she can arrange to come and collect him.
The poor cat is actually 12 years old now and has been wandering around the
Caerphilly area for the last 5 years, probably being fed and cared for by a
variety of cat lovers in the area. We are very pleased that the mystery is
solved and has resulted in such a happy ending for Fernando, his owner & us!
