Our Foster Homes:

The Gwent branch is run entirely by volunteers (as are the majority of Cats Protection branches) with fosterers housing the cats & kittens in purpose built pens in their gardens or using spare bedrooms in their homes.

People decide to foster for many reasons but, of course, the main one is their love for cats.

There are 2 types of fostering - indoor & outdoor fostering.

• Indoor fostering means that the cats or kittens that you foster will live in a spare room in your own home. The cats do not mix with your own, this is to prevent the spread of disease.
• Outdoor fostering means that you will have cattery type pens in your garden, which CP will provide, along with a base (if there is not one already down) and electricity into the pens for lighting & heating. All equipment, food & litter will be provided by the branch. As you can probably appreciate the outdoor fostering costs us a great deal to set up and so, due to this, we require that you are involved with the branch for at least 6 months. This involvement can include indoor fostering, fund raising, home visiting or phone work.

 Fostering does require a commitment as you will need to take the cats to the vets for check ups or if they are ill. You will need to attend Cat Adoption Days with your foster cats.  People will come to your home to view the cat & (hopefully) adopt. There is paperwork to fill out when a cat is adopted & also the Welfare Officer needs to be told of any holidays you have booked as we need to arrange to move your foster cats to another fosterer

At present we have 8 fosterers with a total of 11 outdoor pens & 4-5 indoor rooms.
