Want to Adopt one of our cats?...
Our procedure for adoption is that we ask a few
questions, usually over the phone, then someone will come out to do a home
visit.
Types of questions we ask are :
-
Where do you live - is it near a busy
road
-
Do you have any other cats / dogs /
pets
-
Do you have children, what are their
ages.
-
Have you had a cat in the past?
-
Is everyone out at work all day.
The home visit is to make sure that we match the right
type of cat to the right type of home. We do not home 1 kitten on its own if
everyone is out at work all day. The home visit is usually arranged quickly
at a time suitable for yourself & the home visitor.
Provided everything is ok with the home visit, then we
will let you know what suitable cats or kittens we have available and where
they are (we have fosterers who foster in their own homes). You can then go
to view the cat or kitten & adopt if they are suitable.
With regards to neutering, we neuter everything that is over 4 months of
age, if it is younger than this then we will contact you when it is old
enough & arrange the neutering. All cats/kittens will be vet checked,
microchipped, wormed & defleaed, often they will be tested for FIV & FeLV.
We are now, from 1st January 2008, vaccinating cats & kittens in our care. You will also receive 6
weeks free insurance.
We do not charge for adopting a cat or kitten from us,
but as we have to do all our own fundraising, then we do ask that you
consider giving a donation, a suggested amount is £45 per cat or kitten, however this is a donation and so it is up to
yourself how much you give. This helps towards the huge vets bills that we
get
Things
to consider before deciding to adopt:
- You could be
committing to your new cat for up to 20
years. Can you offer continued stability?
- Veterinary fees can
be expensive. You should expect to visit the
vets at least once a year for a health check
and vaccination. Other preventative health
care measures include de-fleaing (usually a
monthly treatment) and de-worming (typically
a three-monthly treatment); seek advice from
your vet on frequency. Pet insurance will help with the cost of
major illness and emergency treatment.
- You will need to
make arrangements for your cat when you go
on holiday, this may involve boarding
cattery fees.
- Feeding a cat will
cost you a minimum of £5 per week, plus the
additional expense of other items such as a
litter tray and litter, toys, bowls, bedding
etc...
- If you get a long-haired cat, you will
need to set time aside for grooming.
